The Strength Coach
heads to the Senior Bowl
The Strength Coach, Greg Smith, was pleased to attend the 55th annual Senior
Bowl, football's premier pre-draft showcase, on Jan. 24 in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles
Stadium. Ninety-six of the nation's top senior NFL draft prospects took the field in
the game, which served as the climax to a week-long series of practice sessions and
special events, attended by more than 800 general managers, head coaches, assistants,
scouts and other front office personnel from the National Football League.
It is the only event which features the country's top senior draft prospects on
team's coached by National Football League coaching staffs. San Diego Chargers head coach
Marty Schottenheimer and his staff coached the South squad in this year's game, while
Marvin Lewis and his Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff coached the North team.
A sellout crowd filled 40,646-seat Ladd-Peebles Stadium for the contest
presented by Food World, marking the game's 10th consecutive sellout. ESPN followed all of
the game action with television coverage and a live Web cast.

Sean Salisbury from ESPN stood outside the broadcsat booth after the
Senior Bowl, Jan. 24, 2004, and reflected on the "good ole days" when he
was a quarterback at USC and Greg did the radio play-by-play at Arizona State.
Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis loved the concept of
"The Strength Coach" and chuckled immediately when he heard the name. The two
coaches met at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL, Jan. 24, 2004.

Coach Marvin Lewis delivers positive mental nourishment in defeat.
After losing to the South 28-10, he reminds his players that everyone in the room
has the potential to be an NFL player, and that not one of them is out of place.
