How Vision and Reaction Lead to Victory in Life Great athletes have vision. Skilled quarterbacks know what they're going to do before they start doing it and they have the ability to see what is happening and react if events don't go as planned. They compensate for differences between the plan and the reality. So do great point guards in basketball. And so should you, if you want to have a happy, productive, satisfying life. Twelve years ago, when I started "On A Roll -- Talk Radio on Life and Disability," my vision was to use syndicated radio to change the way people viewed disability. As I saw the play developing, I realized that we were serving an important role in providing a forum for national discussion of issues within the disability movement, but I could also see that we weren't really reaching the mainstream. So, I had to react to it. Now, "The Strength Coach" appeals to the mainstream with a motivational message. Everyone wants inner strength! But the new show also leads that mainstream audience to a place where they can see the capabilities of people with disabilities and realize the disability community can offer strengths and insights to the melting pot. I had vision and reacted to what wasn’t going as planned. Now my plans are developing nicely. As we enter National Disability Employment Awareness Month, here’s what I see developing on my playing field:
Last year at this time, I began the process of reacting to what wasn’t going well with my plan. Since then, my vision hasn’t changed. I still have the same goals. But with the help of a strong team, I saw what was working and reacted to what wasn’t, and now, I’m very excited about what I see developing. What is your vision? What is working? What are the breakdowns that are causing your plan to fall short of your expectations? How can you react and create modifications to your winning game plan?
