On the radio:
"The Strength Coach
Radio Show airs Sunday evenings at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on the Radio America
Network.
Strength in Diversity: One of the greatest attributes of a winning coach is the ability to
utilize the strengths of diverse team members. As an African American with a disability, I have
an interesting perspective on the concept of diversity. When different perspectives are thrown
into the knowledge pool, discussion, decision making and the implementation of winning
strategies are easier to execute.
In America, the media is largely
responsible for contributing diverse perspectives into our pool of knowledge. Next week, I'll be in
Washington, D.C., attending "UNITY: Journalists of Color," a national conference representing
7,000 media professionals of color. UNITY is a strategic, national alliance comprised of the
Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), National Association of Black Journalists
(NABJ), National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), and Native American Journalists
Association (NAJA).
This Week's show - Aug. 1: As a preview to Unity, this week on "The Strength Coach with Greg Smith" our guest will be
Lenora Billings-Harris, an internationally recognized
speaker, multicultural diversity expert, and author with more than 25 years experience in the
public and private sectors. As an educator and keynoter, Lenora presents sensitive topics in a high-energy, fun-filled, yet thought-provoking way. Her
interactive style, and immediately applicable "how to’s" have caused clients to invite her back
again and again. She works with Fortune 500 companies as well as professional associations and non-profit organizations and
government agencies. She also served as an adjunct professor for Arizona State University,
(GO SUN DEVILS!) and is currently on the adjunct faculty of University of North
Carolina-Greensboro. Lenora has presented to audiences in South Africa, Spain, Germany,
Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico and Canada.
How open are you to inviting the unique experiences and expertise of people who come from
diverse backgrounds to toss their ideas into your pool of knowledge? Lenora will give us all
food for thought.
PS: The National Speakers Association announced at its convention last week that Lenora has
just been elected president of NSA for 2006-2007! You GO girl! Tune in for a fascinating
one-hour discussion.
