Are you awake and alive?
John Drury This week, we’ll throw it deep to author John Drury. His new book, "Awaken Your Soul" boldly reveals his personal story and dares us all to probe our inner selves through a unique blend of art and word. Like so many of us, John's work was his life. It was his identity. Business notoriety and financial success were the benchmark for his self worth. His life was a blistering pace fueled by ambition and desire. When he eventually took the time to look in the mirror, he didn't like nor recognize the man staring back. Spending most of his life on "automatic pilot," John was more asleep than awake. Through his artwork, John shows how a man eventually confronts his deepest fears and secrets. He peels back the layers of his life in order to uncover his Soul's intent and to feel fully alive. Discover how you can become more fully alive in your life by reading John's story and by listening to our conversation.

Next Week’s Guest: Mattie’s Mom
Mattie Stepanek was much more than just a cute poster child. In my Labor Day weekend interview with his mom, Jeni, you’ll discover that from his deathbed, at the age of 13, he whispered instructions to her about where to find journal entries that would supplement his final book, “Just Peace – A Message of Hope.” As a legacy, the book offers a collection of essays and e-mail correspondence between Mattie and Former President Jimmy Carter, as these two peacemakers work together to realize their vision of a peaceful world. The book also contains many photographs, along with selections of Mattie’s artwork and peace poetry. My interview with Jeni Stepanek is unique in that she and I are both wheelchair users with muscular dystrophy who will compare and contrast our views about life, children, hope and inspiration. We’ll talk about Jimmy Carter, Oprah Winfrey, September 11th, Larry King and of course, Jerry Lewis. Tune in for a very interesting program. Check here for a list of stations, or come back to our Web site on Sunday for an online archive.

It is the artist who realizes that there is a supreme force above him and works gladly away as a small apprentice under God's heaven. -- Alexander Solzhenitsyn
