Sharpening Skills: Greg to Atlanta for NSA
    NSA logo
Greg Smith is escaping Hurricane Dennis by flying to Atlanta today for the National Speakers Association Annual Conference (NSA). This weekend, he will become the Vice-Chair of NSA's Motivational PEG (Professional Excellence Group) and he will be a "showcase speaker" at the BLACK NSA Reception, where his 10-minute speech will be critiqued by legendary speakers, John Alston, Norm Hull, Desi Williamson, Vincent Kituku, and Ed Robinson. The pressure is on! Greg attends NSA every year because he has a strong desire to continually improve as a professional speaker.

Promote, Promote, Promote: Big Stage at Black Journalists Conference
    NABJ logo
At the National Association of Black Journalists Annual conference in Atlanta, Aug. 3-8, Joanne Caputo's documentary film, "On A Roll" will be screened at the NABJ Film Festival. More than 3,000 media professionals will learn that a man in a wheelchair is on the verge of making history as the first severely disabled, multiple mass media talent and social commentator, who happens to be African American. Six hundred of them will become emotionally connected to his mission by viewing the documentary and listening to him speak immediately after the screening. He will be a subject of discussion at the after parties and the receptions as media minds mingle. He will have his book on hand and will address a meeting room full of journalists who are aspiring authors in a session entitled "Writing Memoirs and Autobiographies." He will carry himself with dignity, and speak with thunder, and unleash the physical jolt of inspiration that lends itself to immediate surrender to the word "yes!" If your corporation would like to sponsor this event, call 877-331-7563, but time is running out.

On A Roll book cover Dennis Blows 1,000 Books to Pennsylvania!
Greg Smith's Autobiography, "On A Roll - Reflections from America's Wheelchair Dude with the Winning Attitude." is in harms way. Hurricane Dennis is fast approaching so Greg is taking no chances with his precious inventory. His book will be distributed to the trade by Biblio Distribution, a sister company of the National Book Network, and the official publication date is Oct. 1. To avoid hurricane damage, the books are on the way to Biblio's warehouse today! You don't have to wait until October to get your autographed copy of what could become a national best-seller. Ask Greg to sign one for you here.

    Early praise:
  • "A candid, inspirational read. (Greg) has the dedication and persistence of a world champion." -- Jude LaCava - Fox 10 Sports, Phoenix, Az.

  • "It reads like a fiction novel, versus an autobiography. It took me through a whole RANGE of emotions!" -- Sheree, Tallahassee, Fla.

    This week's show

Have you heard the one about the one-eyed umpire? Really. Max McLeary is an umpire with one eye. That's a distinction, but he takes it in stride. "Everything Happens in Chillicothe" is McLeary's biography. Greg Smith and producer Mike Ervin, both wheelchair users with muscular dystrophy who are baseball fans, will explore all the one-eye jokes with this charismatic minor league umpire and author. His book explores the profession he loves and the relationships he has formed during his life with limited eyesight. Readers will be impressed by this man's resilience and his passion for a sport that keeps him calling the plays.
