Cosby is Correct!

The recent controversy around Bill Cosby's message to the black community has inspired me to remember times in my life when I've been told things I didn't want to hear, but desperately needed. Sometimes to build our inner strength, we need to listen to those who love us and care enough about us to say what is uncomfortable. As an African American who was born in Mississippi and raised in a mostly white middle class environment in upstate New York and suburban Chicago, I have found that my ability to navigate between different cultural environments has given me strength. This week, in the wake of the Cosby controversy and the "guilty" verdict in the "Mississippi Burning" Killen case, I invited Rip Daniels, CEO/Manager of WJZD, to come down to the studio. WJZD is one of only four 100 percent African-American owned radio stations in the state of Mississippi. What do you think of Bill Cosby's message?
And... Happiness is the Real Medicine!

At a recent speaking engagement for the American Association of Physician Assistants, I met Blair Lewis, the creator and spiritual director of the Alive and Healthy Institute in Madison, Wis. Since 2002, the institute has sought to improve the life of people world-wide by building a bridge between science and spirituality. Lewis is the author of multiple articles and books, including "Happiness: The Real Medicine and How it Works." In this book, Lewis explores a series of traits that happy people possess: quietude, self-restraint, endurance, disinterest in worldly charms, freedom from conflicts and distractions, and desire for happiness.
Book and Movie to be Showcased at Black Journalists Convention in Atlanta!
Last week, Greg learned that Joanne Caputo's documentary film, "On A Roll: Family, Disability and the American Dream" will be presented at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention Film Festival, August 3-8. This week, Greg received two other exciting phone calls. First, he learned that his book, "On A Roll: Reflections from America's Wheelchair Dude with the Winning Attitude" will be a part of the NABJ Convention's Author's Showcase!!! He also received news that his book has been accepted by Biblio Distribution, Inc., the sister company of National Book Network, Inc., (NBN) the fastest growing book distributor in North America! This means there is a chance Greg's self-published book will be in bookstores across America in October, which is National Disability Awareness Month.
But you don't have to wait until October. Greg's Smith's success as a broadcaster, speaker and disability leader and marketer is filled with clues everyone can learn from. Read how he reinvented his life and battled against the devaluation of others to emerge victorious. Take a minute now to get your copy of Greg's newly published autobiography, "On A Roll - Reflections from America's Wheelchair Dude with the Winning Attitude."
Early praise:
"A candid, inspirational read. (Greg) has the dedication and persistence of a world champion." -- Jude LaCava - Fox 10 Sports, Phoenix, Az.
