Create Your Own Job
Recently, I have received several e-mails from people on the verge of hopelessness. You can probably relate to having dreams, goals and ambition and yet being continually denied by those who you perceive to be the gatekeepers to your success. Can't get an interview? Can't get a job? Can't get a loan? Can't get a grant?
What would it be like if we looked at the gatekeepers as messengers who are communicating an even greater destiny? In my book, I write about being denied the opportunity to sell radio advertising 13 years ago. That was my goal.
Today, I am so glad that gatekeepers rejected that aspiration. If I had not been denied that goal, I would probably be driving around town in a suit every day, pressured to meet my numbers, worried about keeping my job, putting in long hours away from home and dealing with rush hour traffic five days a week! Instead, I'm working from my bedroom/radio studio only when I want to, traveling the globe, meeting amazing people and generating income on the Internet while deep sea fishing, sleeping or watching movies with my kids. My point? Have you ever considered starting your own business?
Our guest this week is Tom Antion. Tom has never had a job because he has been an entrepreneur all of his career. Professional speakers around the world look to him as the Internet marketing guru. His insights have been key ingredients that have led to the success I have enjoyed. Tom will join me this Sunday to stimulate you to consider your unique background, expertise and wisdom, and think of ways you can turn that into your own business. Don't miss this inspiring hour of talk radio.
Black Journalists Pick "On A Roll" for Film Festival!
The award-winning PBS documentary film, "On A Roll: Family, Disability and the American Dream," will be presented at the National Association of Black Journalists 30th Anniversary Convention Film Festival, Aug. 3-7, 2005, at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. The NABJ Convention attracts more than 3,000 attendees from across the country. It is the largest professional gathering devoted to black journalists. The 30th anniversary convention's theme – "Telling Our Story" – reflects the goal to continue to voice the passion, pride, purpose and power of black journalists.
"I think it is great that NABJ has selected our film at this particular conference because it means black journalists are embracing the disability story as a part of their story." said Greg Smith, the 65-pound, wheelchair-using radio talk show host and motivational speaker who is the subject of the film. "I think that is a groundbreaking and very moving statement about forward progress!"
