Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS)
PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping people with disabilities together with their companion animals, educating the community on the benefits and risks of animal companionship, and advocating on behalf of the human-animal bond.
People with long-term disabilities can face many losses: health, employment, economic security and sometimes, the support of family and friends. PAWS understands that often a pet can be one’s only source of comfort and that a pet’s unconditional love can help ease depression and despair, especially in the case of a life-threatening illness. For more than 18 years, PAWS has provided comprehensive services – a pet food bank, dog walking, cat care, supplemental vet services, transportation to vet appointments and pet foster care when clients need long-term hospitalization – all designed so our clients can maintain the love and companionship of their companion animals. We provide counseling, advocacy and representation for animal-related housing difficulties, particularly for clients facing eviction due to their companion or service animal.
Because of the generous support of the community, PAWS is able to annually serve nearly 450 human clients and their 500+ companion animals.
Enjoying the Game!
By Greg Smith
I've always believed that to get the most out of life, we should approach it like an athlete approaches a game. My philosophy is that if we look at life as a game, we'll play to have fun and we play to win. This also helps us enjoy our work lives and avoid the pitfall of taking ourselves too seriously.
Two weeks ago, while in the Cable One Advertising production studio editing together my speaking video demo tape, I learned that Producer Rick Okoniewski, is a jazz enthusiast. As we spent more time in the studio hitting it off, the subject of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival came up. That weekend, we found ourselves having a great time with thousands of others from around the world attending this incredible event. I enjoyed it so much that I'm going again this weekend!
We spend a lot of time and energy making a living. We should spend a fraction of that time and energy making our lives fun!
The Strength Coach's winning tip: Plan something incredibly fun, do it and enjoy it.

The feature act last Friday at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was Steve Winwood, who blew audiences away, playing all the classic hits from his days with Traffic and his solo career. Sadly, he didn't play "Roll With It," the tune that served as the unofficial theme song for Greg's former radio show, "On A Roll" in the early days. In the foreground, an interpreter "sings" for the deaf rock & rollers in attendance.
