Make a Difference!
I think to build inner strength, we need to improve ourselves but also improve the world we live in. There are limitless ways you can improve the world... So many that it may be difficult to decide which way to lend a hand. But maybe you can think of one or two main areas that need your attention.
This week on the Strength Coach Radio Show, I'll be interviewing two authors who have decided to make a difference, and in doing so, have built their own inner strength. And in giving them air time, I have chosen to put the spotlight on two societal problems that matter to me.
The first is the fact that boys don't read as much as girls. My first guest, David Skuy, worries about a culture that discourages his son from reading. Skuy changed his career to author a novel, "Off the Crossbar," which is aimed at boys like his son.
The second is the plight of the African American man. My second guest, Dr. Michael Penn, is dealing with the subject of a front page story on March 20th in The New York Times which said, "black men in the U.S. face a far more dire situation than is portrayed by common employment and education statistics." Penn is co-author of a new book written to help minority students find their true purpose and achieve their career goals.
Both of these guests are making a difference solving important societal problems, but they also will talk about the feeling of accomplishment they have experienced from doing something!
