I thought it would be appropriate, as we are still mourning the loss of Dana Reeve to rebroadcast a tribute program we aired a year and a half ago, when her husband Christopher Reeve left us. This program is an ensemble of the three times I had the opportunity of speaking with Christopher on my radio program, "On A Roll: Talk Radio on Life & Disability." The show also includes reflection from Brewster Thackeray of the National Organization, of which Christopher Reeve was Vice Chair.
One of the last projects that Dana Reeve undertook before she died of lung cancer on March 6 was to host the PBS special The New Medicine, scheduled to premiere on March 29 at 9 p.m.
"It has become clear to me that high-tech medicine, with all its wonders, often leaves out that all-important human touch," Ms. Reeve says in the program's introduction, taped in late November, 2005.
"The New Medicine is a tribute to Ms. Reeve's belief that patients look to their physicians for caring and not just curing as they battle illness," says executive producer Catherine Allan, of Twin Cities Public Television. "Christopher and Dana Reeve's example show us that even with serious health problems, one can live a full life and that healing is not about the length of your life but about the quality," says Muffie Meyer, producer/director of The New Medicine. The New Medicine will air in memoriam to Ms. Reeve.
The Extra Point!
The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die.
